Sterba's cory (Corydoras sterbai) is a popular freshwater aquarium catfish. It's a member of the Cory catfish family, which includes over 200 species. The name Corydoras comes from the Greek words "kory" (helmet) and "doras" (skin).
Sterba's cory is native to the Guaporé River region between Bolivia and Brazil. It was first discovered in 1962 by Dr. Günther Sterba, and was named after him.
The fish has sharp spines and produces a mild venom that can sting if it touches the skin. It's an easy-going, bottom-dweller with a unique look and quirky personality.
The recommended pH range for the species is 6.2 - 7.8, and the recommended water hardness (dGH) is 4 - 12°N (71.43 - 214.29ppm).
The minimum tank size is 10 gallons. The temperature should be 73° - 79° F (23° - 26° C), and the pH should be 6.0 - 7.6.
Captive-bred fish are generally more hardy and adaptable than their wild counterparts because they've been raised in conditions far removed from their natural habitat.
